Besides treating damaged hair, it is also a great dry hair formulation that can effectively clear the scalp from dead flaky skin. Sebum is hydrophobic; meaning that in order to get rid of the oil layer, using only water will not be effective. This is where surfactant plays their role. Surfactants lower the surface tension in liquids and are composed of a hydrophilic part (sticks to water) and a hydrophobic/lipophilic part (stays away from water/sticks to oils). The hydrophobic/lipophilic part sticks to the oils in the hair. Then, as the shampoo is rinse out with water, the hydrophilic parts of the surfactant molecules will stick to the water and therefore carry along the oils with them as the shampoo goes down the drain.
Most use sodium lauryl sulphate (SLS) or sodium laureth sulphate (SLES) as their surfactant which is knows as an eye, skin and respiratory tract irritant. Bio Active contains Lauryl glucoside which is a bio surfactant derived from Elaeis guineensis (species of palm) that does not cause such irritant. Lauryl glucoside is a non-ionic surfactant that can be used as a foaming agent, conditioner or emulsifier. Lauryl glucoside has excellent foaming capacity and good dermatological compatibility.
