Astigmatism is a condition in which the eye does not focus light evenly onto the retina, the light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eye. This can cause images to appear blurry and stretched out. Presbyopia is an age-related condition in which the ability to focus up close becomes more difficult. As the eye ages, the lens can no longer change shape enough to allow the eye to focus close objects clearly.

Most digital screens are back lit and emit blue light, or a high-energy visible (HEV) light wavelength, which is said, can cause irritation and possibly long-term damage to the retina. Blue light is also known to suppress the sleep hormone melatonin, causing an artificial feeling of wakefulness and disrupting sleep patterns, which can add to eye strain.

Eye strain from hours of screen time can result in eye irritation, dryness, fatigue or blurred vision. People with myopia, or near-sightness, and other vision issues like hyperopia, astigmatism and presbyopia, may be at increased risk for digital eye strain. • Changes in the colour of the iris
• Itching, burning, or a heavy discharge in the eyes


Cataracts: is when the lens of the eye becomes cloudy, so that the vision becomes blurry.
Glaucoma: is caused by raised pressure inside the eyeball, because of problems in the eye’s fluid drainage channels. The increased pressure in the eyeball damages the optic nerve.
Macular degeneration: is an eye condition associated with ageing.
Refractive eye conditions: is problems related with focusing of the eyes. When the eyes can’t focus properly, vision becomes blurry which can also cause headaches and tired eyes.

Signals sent from the photo receptors travel along nerve fibers to a nerve bundle which exits the back of the eye, called the optic nerve. The optic nerve sends the visual signals to the visual centre in the back of the brain where the experience of vision occurs.

Many people think of lutein as “the eye vitamin.” They use it to prevent eye diseases including age-related macular degeneration (AMD), cataracts, and retinitis pigmentosa.
